Here we are!

In computer lessons our teacher is Mrs Beal. We are learning how to design and work with blogs. We are hoping to make lots of friends with classes around the world. All our individual blogs are listed down the side of our class blog. Do take a look and please leave a comment. At the moment we are busy with a wonderful project called the Senior Citizens project. We are enjoying this project so much. Please look at our ‘Senior Citizens project’ page. Perhaps we could encourage you to do a similar project and let us know how it goes.

G’day Mrs Beal and her computer classes,
Thanks for leaving a comment on my class blog. Please feel free to use any of the challenges.

I held a challenge last year as well and we began a new blog so the students could keep in touch. The teachers are administrators of the blog and they can add students in as authors or editors if they want to write a post. Each fortnight (Two weeks) a new class takes control of the blog. We have classes from Canada, USA, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand and Argentina who regularly write in the blog.

Do you and your classes want to be in charge starting Sunday 17th May? You could write a post about your grandparents and ask the students to write comments and posts. The URL for the blog is http://studentfriends.edublogs.org

If you want to be in charge then send me an email and I will add you as an administrator.

Hi there Mrs Beal and students,

I’m Mrs Beasley, an ICT teacher at United World College of South East Asia in Singapore. I would like to thank your teacher for her kind comments on my blog, and let you know what a fabulous job you have done on your senior citizen’s project. Love the idea! So nice to connect and learn from people of all ages.

Our school is in the midst of Arts festival at the moment, so our kids are in and out of class right now, but if we get some time I would love for them to comment on your blogs. Please be patient with us so we can find the time.

I’d like to tell you about my super Grandad though. He’s 92 and is really up with the play with technology. We regularly Skype him (he lives in New Zealand, where I’m from) and he has his webcam up and running so we can see him and have a nice chat. You’re never too old to learn! I hope that inspires other senior citizens to get tech-savvy too.

    Hope to connect again soon.

    Keri-Lee Beasley (a.k.a. Mrs B)

Hello Mrs. Beagley and students! I am a second grade teacher in Illinois, USA, and my students have their own blogs, too. Many of them are visiting your blog today to read about what you are doing at your school, and to share comments with your students. One of our second graders studied the country of South Africa earlier in the year, and we were very excited to find your blog! We would love if your students could visit our blog and leave some comments. We’ll read your blog again soon!

    Hi Mrs Beal!
Congratulations on the splendid work your class did with the senior citizen project! I’m a Portuguese Teacher, my 5th and 6th grades are learning to blog, but as I’m away from school now – due to a knee surgery – our work is in “stand by”. I’ll come again to visit your young student’s blogs.

    Hi Mrs. Beagley,
I am a student from Mr. Mundorf’s social studies class in Florida. We have different names for each of the 4 classes. 2nd period is known as Washington, 3rd period is Jefferson, 4th period (the class I am in) is Lincoln, and 5th period is Roosevelt. Your class sounds very exciting, from this project. We just finished learning about the civil war, and, now we are getting in to the states. As you should know Mr. Mundorf is a big fan of projects and we are currently working on a very cool one. We are each learning about the different states in the U.S.A. To be more specific its where your whole class goes on a field trip and you find different attractions to go to in your state. I just came by to leave a comment and tell you more about our class. I was blown when we had somebody visit our blog from south Africa. Please comment back!
    Sincerly,
    Mishel Nazarko (MNLincoln)

I’ll have to spend more time looking around your blog — didn’t have enough time right now.

We had a teacher at our school (ACS, Beirut, Lebanon) who was from South Africa. He was with us for about three years, I think. We all learned a lot about South Africa, when he’d decorate his classroom for Multicultural Week — it was like going on a safari!

My grandmother and grandfather lived in South Africa for many years back in the 1950’s. I can’t spell the name of the town they lived in — something like Verreniging. As a young child, I thought their life was fascinating. They brought back an awesome collection of slides, at a time most people in the US weren’t even aware of the country of South Africa!

I have left a link to our Grade 5 blog. The Grade 5 students are a little more active than the students of the blog where you left the comment.

As I said, I’ll check more out soon. I was most pleased to take a cursory look at your Senior Citizen project. I have an invalid, elderly mother (87) in the US and I know she’d love to be visited by a group of school students!

    Hi Mrs. Beal and students!
I’m a student from Massachusetts. Awesome blog, yours is one of the best I’ve seen. I especially like the picture of you and your students at the top. I think that is awesome that you explore blogging in computer class, unfortunately I don’t get to do that in computer class. I like your senior citizens project idea, it’s a great way to get them involved.

All our students have their own email if some of your stuents would like to exchange message let me know.

  22.   Mr. M Says:

    Hi Mrs. B
My student was very excited that you responded to her. I will make a point tonight to leave some comments on some of your student’s blogs. Anyway, the music that plays when you enter our class blog comes on automatically as a result of the slide-show I created using rockyou.com
I am exploring digital story-telling with my students and have posted a few platforms that they can use for this purpose. Explore my digital story-telling page for a link to an Australian wiki that lists at least 50 web tools that you can use for this purpose.

    Hello Fiona,
This is Miss Ale from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Thank you for visiting our class blog and leaving us some comments. As regards the RSS, apparently the problem could be that there is not enough text in the post.
Concerning the collaborative project using Etherpad, it would be fantastic! I have already been thinking about some ideas which I would like to share with you.
Do you have any email address where I can contact you?
    Thank you!
    We’ll keep in touch
    Miss Ale

    Hello Mrs. Fiona,
Thank you for leaving your kind comment on my ACS Beirut blog. You have been doing a wonderful job with your students, connecting with other people in the world. I am especially impressed by your project for senior citizens. I am vice-president for an NGO “Kibarouna”, which means “Senior Citizens” in Arabic. Your work is inspiring, and I appreciate if you can share with me some of the activities that your students enjoyed with seniors so I can start implementing a similar project at the American Community School at Beirut (Elementary and Early Years).
    I appreciate your contribution,
